omgosh today has to be the most philanthropic day of my life!
oc food bank
as our first outing, elaine and i volunteered at the oc food bank. volunteering while volunteering! crazyyy. anyways, we met lots of other bigs and littles and elaine had a lotta fun! i felt like a parent taking their kids out to play dates. and elaine surprised me by giving me a necklace! it’s 2 halves of a heart- hers says “me” and mine says “you”. they have little rhinestones and they’re so cute! ahhh she’s so cute! i couldn’t stop smiling!
mentor
i met with my new mentor from the bio sci mentor program- daisy cortes. she is sooooo awesome! i love love love her! she’s a 4th year resident in peds at choc and she is so positive and encouraging. my mentor for life.
DL
the orangewood kids took a field trip to uci. we were expecting pre-teens, but there were several who were in high school already. it was still a lotta fun and the kids all had fun. we played games, painted anteaters, face-painted, ate at mesa commons, and watched the men’s bb game. they got a little taste of college life. i sat next to one kid during the game and he was so amazed; he had his eyes glued to the court the whole time. i asked him if he had any questions about college or anything, and he said, “i’m going to UCI.” that definitely made me smile. and at commons, it was so funny watching them get food cause they would try to juggle 3 plates at once and i had to keep reminding them that it’s a buffet so you can come back and get more food. of course, they didn’t take my advice very srsly. throughout the whole night, we all showed so much uci pride. when the kids left for the night, they all had huge smiles and one girl yelled out zot zot zot. ahhh they’re cute.
such a happy and heartfelt and tiring day. =)
